Head Instructor - Coach Scott

Coach Scott has been teaching and coaching on and off the court since 2002. His favorite classroom is definately being on the tennis court.

My short tennis biography:

Grew up in Lake Havasu, began playing tennis at age 6, along with soccer, baseball and some occasional ping pong.
Played USTA tournaments during his teenage years and was ranked in the top 30 in the Southwest at the end of his 18's age bracket.

Attended Glendale Community College from 1996-1998 to play tennis under the world renown coach, Greg Prudhomme, where the team earned a NJCAA national ranking of 16 during the 97/98 season.
Earned a scholarship to play at D1 Liberty University from 99-01 and finished with a communications degree. Coach Scott played at the 2 doubles and 4 singles spots during his time at Liberty.

Post College, after a few attempts at a graphic design career, switched to teaching which opened the door to begin coaching.

Coach Scott worked with both the boys and girls teams during his tenure at LHHS, earning a few accolades along the way and creating some incredible memories on and off the court and on the soccer field.

After 10 years, in 2011 Coach Scott moved to Phoenix to continue his coaching and teaching career. This time, moving to perennial tennis powerhouse Cave Creek Cactus Shadows HS.
Over the next 8 years between 2012 - 2020, his teams would be at the top of the state team rankings nearly every year.
In 2013 and 2017, CSHS were Region 5 champions.
In 2014, 2015, 2018 CSHS had the state finalists in Div II doubles.
(J.Peterson/J.Anderson -2014)
(J.Anderson/D.Chesnov) -2015
(H.Carrozza/R.Hildebrand) -2018

In 2017 and 2019, CSHS were State Champions
S.Miyata/C.McConnon - 2017
H.Carrozza/R.Hildebrand - 2018

CSHS also had the singles finalist in 2018 (C.McConnon) and the 3rd place singles finisher T.Bergman in 2017.

As a team, CSHS were finalists as a team in 2017, losing to Catalina Foothills HS.
In 2020, CSHS was preparing for another dominating run before Covid19 concerns ended all sports. The team was fully prepared for another run for a state title in singles and doubles with R-Hildebrand returning for his senior year along with C-McConnon who was coming back from a serious 18 month injury. Painfully speaking in so many ways, McConnon was finally cleared by doctors to return for his final season... the same weekend Covid halted all sports.

Since Fall of 2020, Coach Scott left the public school atmosphere and shifted his focus towards his kids, homeschooling his daughters all the while teaching tennis, soccer, gymnastics, swimming and so much more.

Coach Scott resides in the West Valley with his wife of 10 years Hannah and their two daughters Savannah(8) and Sabrina(6).

Sam and Colin will easily go down as two of the best Freshman tennis players to win a State Championship in AZ history. Its a shame that the AZ media did not pay attention to their ages or their talent, as the AIA showed incredible ignorance by not showcasing their incredible accomplishment. It is very rare, especially in tennis, for freshmen to dominate the competition the way they did.

Sam also was undefeated that year in singles.

2017 Div II Team State Finalists

CFHS defeats CSHS 5-3

If there ever was a chance for Catalina Foothills to have their dual match streak end, it would have been this match.
Great tennis played all around. CFHS would continue their streak all the way to 110 wins, starting May 2013 and ending on March 25 2021.

6-2, 4-6, 6-2

McConnon loses to O.Boleratzky 4-6 6-7

A great tournament but everyone came up just a bit short this day. The AIA made some unforgivable mistakes with their scheduling for this tournament, combining the semi and final on the same day. Not fair to the players, fans, or coaches.

They have been doing this setup for years and it makes no sense. The following year, 2019-20, they moved the finals to a Monday night and made it a really great atmosphere.

To Colins defense, he played a near 3 hour semi final against a tough up and coming J Perry of CFHS. To then play the State final less than an hour later. Ridiculous scheduling by AIA.

2019 Div 2 Doubles champions

2018-19 was a great year for CSHS tennis. Despite losing a tough team state semi to Notre Dame, CSHS was able to finish the tournament with a championship. A near repeat matchup from the previous years final, Harry and Ryan came in with unfinished business to take care of. Harry and Ryan really came together as a team and peaked at the right time. Ryan's heavy first serve combined with Harrys quick feet and hands at the net made for a menacing duo that nobody could find a way to defeat.
